Cancun Adventures

One week of heaven, or so it felt; no kids, no responsibilities, just fun: Cancun.

This past week, Tim and I had the amazing opportunity of going to Cancun with his parents and his two sisters, Becca and Sarah. Our trip was planned to a T and filled to the brim with loads of fun activities and plenty of R&R time.  We stayed at the Aventuria Cove Palace Resort about an hour south of Cancun. It was absolutely gorgeous. Nestled right on the ocean with a gorgeous view from the balcony of our presidential suite (which was almost as big as my house).

All of our spare time was spent loungin around the pool, with drinks in hand of course. We also had to make use of our complimentary robes and slippers. Tim and his sisters were so excited that they had to wear them out of the house and around the grounds as well.

One of the great things about the resort we stayed at was the location. We were only 15 minutes from Playa Del Carmen which had some of the best beaches and plenty of shopping. It was great to be so close to a city but we loved the fact that were we stayed wasn't very crowded.

 We did a little shopping in the street market not from the beach. One of Tim's prized finds was a mask like the one from Nacho Libre. He put it on as soon as he had purchased it and all of the local street shop owners kept calling out to him and wanted Nacho to come shop in their store. It was funny.

Xplor was perhaps one of the funnest day that we had. Xplor is an adventure park south of Playa Del Carmen built in and out of the natural cenotes. We spent the day on 14 different ziplines flying  above the park, swimming through the cenotes (underground caves) and driving ATV's through the cenotes and jungle. I wasn't so sure about the ziplines before we got on the first time but the park did a great job of making us feel comfortable and safe through the process. The swim through the cenotes was perhaps the coolest thing of the day. It's incredible how they're preserved the naturally occuring beauty and let us enjoy.

Our days were full and we took the evenings to relax and enjoy the wonderful restuarants at our resort. They had six different restuarants ranging in cuisine from Italian to Mexican to Japanese and so on. Our favorite was the Japanese with their tepanyaki and sushi. Although the pastry cart came in a close second.

The food at the resort was great, benefits of the all inclusive package. We enjoyed gourmet five course meals every night.

Being so close to Cozumel was another plus. We spent one of our days taking a ferry across to the little island and went snorkeling on the second largest reef in the world. It was beautiful. Cozumel is definitely more of a touristy spot than Playa Del Carmen but I was glad to spend a few hours enjoying the beautiful island.

The resort provided us with excellent night entertainment ranging from a magician to a hypnotist to fire dancers and a fiesta the last night that we were there complete with the macarana and bull riding. Tim got cheered on by the whole lobby because he rode the  bull like a pro.

Wednesday was our SPA/Golf day. The men spent the morning at the "most challenging" golf course that  Tim has ever played on. Each hole had a curve in it (so you couldn't see the hole) and were surrounded by wild animals, sand pits, and lots of water. It was also one of the most beautiful golf courses that Tim has played on.

While the boys played golf, the girls made their way to the state of the art gym for a Zumba class and then enjoyed the rest of the day with manicures, pedicures, and massages. The Spa was incredibly relaxing and pampering. Next time we'll have to remember our swimsuits so we can enjoy the hydrotherapy that they offer as well.

On our  last day we spent the majority of the time at the beach basking in the sunshine, flying  Tim's kite, and swimming in the ocean but we also had an amazing activity planned for the afternoon: Swimming With Dolphins. It was one of those experiences that is so incredible! We got to spend the afternoon in the pools with three different dolphins. It was crazy, we got to dance with them, give them kisses, and even got to ride across the pool on their back.

Overall, we had an amazing vacation... Good Bye Cancun... Hope to see you again soon!
