Pittock Mansion

Lisa and I went on this really cool behind the scene tour of the Pittock Mansion on Saturday. The Mansion itself is amazing at 15,000 sq. ft and built in the early 1900's. The coolest thing about this tour was that it took us (lisa and I) in the areas of the house that they usually don't let people go. We got to go up to the third floor where Mr. Pittock's den, the children's playroom, and the servant's quarters are. We also got to go down in the basement into the old laundry into these cool hallways behind the house with little purple windows in the ceiling to allow for air flow throughout the whole hosue. One was where an old vault was held. It was pretty sweet. Mrs. Pittock was very up to par with all of the houseehold details. She even had one of the very first central vacuum cleaners set up in her basement. Another one of my favorite aspects of the house is the roof in the elevator. It is made of ember colored glass to give the elevator a nice glow. It is absolutely gorgeous!
