Thanksgiving

Thankful for this handsome fella this thanksgiving season and the life that we live with our wonderful kids.  We spent a great day with the Schmidt fam relaxing and eating ourselves into oblivion. 

Washington DC

Washington DC was perhaps one of our most favorite trips we've taken to date.  The history of our country, seeing our government in action, and visiting the memorials of past Presidents have really left an impact on us.  

The weather was gorgeous and I couldn't pass up a chance to enjoy my favorite drink in park in front of the White House. I got to spend my days while Tim was in class walking through the many museums dotting the National Mall.  One of my favorites was the Portrait Gallery.

Occasionally I met up with Tim for lunch and we enjoy our first experience with Shake Shack. How can you go wrong with cookies and cream milkshakes and burgers. 

We rode bikes through Georgetown stopping to window shop, eat some amazing cupcakes, and the best pizza we've ever had.  2 Amy's is famous pizza made by a real Italian Chef with ingredients flown in from Italy.  It was completely worth the hour long bike ride up hill and the even longer hour long wait to get into the restaurant.  We made good up of our spare time though by visiting the National Cathedral. 

The monuments were a good combination of historical and spiritual. Tim's favorite was the Jefferson Monument or as Tim says they also call it a temple. 

We rode our bikes around the different monuments multiple times including a night-time ride which was very secluded. 

Gelato, gelato, and more gelato.  We stopped every day we were there for some delicious Gelato at the Dolcezza.  Our favorite flavor combinations were Marscapone and Berry and Lemon Ricotta.   It makes my mouth water just thinking about them. 

The most surprising place we visited was definitely the Library of Congress.  After taking a tour of the Capital Building, someone suggested walking through the tunnels over to the Library of Congress to avoid the rain and I'm glad we did.  Definitely the most architectural interest in the paintings, stained glass, and the wood working inside the library.  We didn't take the time to review any of the books but rumor has it that one of the first copies of the Book of Mormon can be found inside. 

Visiting the House of Representatives, Senate, and the building that houses the Supreme Court were fabulous.  We even spent some time seeing the government in action as the Senate was in session while we were there.  

Tim always finds a way to view some teeth on every visit we have.  The Museum of Natural History was another highlight.

The Washington Monument was one of my favorites.  In particular, on the elevator ride back down we stopped to see the engravings on the inside of the stones for each of the states.  Such history involved in the creation of these monuments. 

The Ford Theatre were Lincoln was shot.  I enjoyed my days spending time wandering through the different museums and streets of DC.  Just a few of the hours were spent in this historic theatre.

Air and Space Museum.  

Founding Farmers,  not only was it one of our favorite places to eat but also one of the best names.  It was a random recommendation from another dental family we ran into outside the Record's Building.  

One last memory was made during the time we spent in the Records Building.  Seeing the original copies of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution were historic following by the viewing of the original Star-Spangled Banner.  

Moxie

With Macy's profound love of dance we decided to try out for The Moxie dance team this year and Macy has rocked it. Between the parades, fair performance, and halftime shows she has made us seriously proud.

Bike Riding

This little cowgirl learned how to ride her bike without training wheels yesterday and is so proud. She even tried to convince me that she could ride her bike in the house to get to the counter to eat her lunch.
