Coach Freebie

I was just standing there minding my own business when good fortune found its way to me.

They were having some super sale at the Coach Outlet this past weekend and I finally convinced Tim to get me this sleek, white leather wallet with a silver latch and pink lining. Because the sale was so good (an extra 30% off everything in the store... and that was after the 50% off because it was on clearance) the line was about a half an hour long but you won't hear me complaining about the long line because it gave me the chance to meet my new friend Pat Dillards. We chatted for a few minutes about random things (she guessed that we were LDS, she lives in Mesa during the winter, and she acted like a proud mother when we told her that Tim just graduated from Dental School). After asking our opinion on four different bags that she was buying she realized that she hadn't reached the $500 she had planned on spending. So, the only logical thing to do was to offer to buy me a bag to reach her $500 quota (apparently her husband struck it rich by inventing something). After declining her offer several times she insisted on paying for the new wallet we were in line to buy. Now, with Pat in mind every time I use my sleek new wallet, I'm impressed by how generous a person can be to a copmlete stranger, and hope to pay it forward (now if only Tim could invent something worthwhile). Thank you Pat!

Moving: Part 1

Right now, I am on my couch typing up this blog post.... lounging. I might as well be drinking a lemonade. As I lounge, however, a clan of brutish men are working and sweating over a job that I have grown to loathe over the years... MOVING! No more Uhaul, no more calling the Elder's Quorum, this time Tim's work is paying for us to move to Moses Lake. I'm sure glad that someone else is doing this job for me. You just don't realize how much you have until it is all packed up in boxes. After packing things up yesterday the movers catalogued 99 boxes.

Dental School Graduation!

I haven't seen a smile as big as Tim's since the day we got married.

The time has finally come for him to become Dr. Timothy C. Schmidt (officially) as he graduated from Oregon Health And Science University School Of Dentistry (after four long years ) on Friday, June 18th. Tim looked great during the graduation ceremony all dressed up in his wizard robes. He was so proud of his matching lilac tie and dental cuff links (lilac is the official color of dentistry). Before they were hooded, all the graduates were addressed by the usual dean speech, alumni association, etc. and Jason Yole's (class president) speech was especially good.

Tim recieved his hood from Dr. Whitley (his bridge group leader) and was awarded his diploma by Dean Clinton.

Tim was little bummed that he didn't win an award as he was 0.1 grade point average away from graduating with honors. He must have been second place for many of the awards given. Just looking at Tim though you could tell that this was his triumphant victory after working so hard.

He was proud to share the moment with his family. Jim & Rosalyn and Arlin & Susan all came up to help him celebrate his special day.

We are both sad to be leaving most of our closest friends.

Grad Party!

It is still a week premature but OHSU Dental School Class of 2010 had it's grad party Friday night. Even though many of their friends didn't go, Tim and Tyler went together for one last hurrah with their classmates. The party was at the banquet hall of the Portland Art Museum (they had a little too much fun with the statues).

It was suit and tie formal.

They served a nice dinner, gave out some fun awards, had an amazing slideshow, and finished the night off on the dance floor (some people had a bit too much to drink).

It was fun to see everybody one last time. Go Sellwood Bridge!

Helvetia Half Marathon

Two hours and seventeen minutes... Normally that is the amount of time that it takes me to take a shower, pour breakfast, and go through an episode of sesame street with Macy. This morning however I spent my time running. 13.1 miles seems like a lot. Despite the near throwup incident at mile 13 it was easier than I expected. Megan and I were partners 90 percent of the way (she left me in the last two miles). We've trained, encouraged, and paced ourselves together over the last five weeks. It's been great having someone to run with! I think we'll run another half marathon in Bend in October.

The weather was the best it's been in the time we've trained (high of 82 and pure sunshine) and we couldn't ask for a better course. We ran through the wine country north of Highway 26. It was absolutely gorgeous! As I went to cross the finish line I couldn't believe the time stated on the time clock: I finished in 2 hours and 17 minutes! I thought for sure it would be closer to 2 hours and 45 minutes... we were so quick that Tim and Tyler hadn't even gotten there to cheer us on yet. (They showed up about ten minutes after we finished.) I am so impressed with us. My ultimate goal (if I decided to set one before beside just finishing) would have been to run it in under 2 hours and 30 minutes. Go Team!

The results are in from WREB a few weekends ago and Tim PASSED!!!!! Good job love! I'm so proud of you!

18 months

My little girl is growing up so quickly. She actually turned 18 months last week but just had her doctor's appointment today. The doctor has always told me that she is perfect and it just continued today... Macy weighed in at 26 lbs 1.5 oz (75th percentile) with a height of 33 1/4 inches (90th percentile) and a head circumference of 47 1/2 cm (75th percentile). She is still on the same growth curve!

She is such a joy right now. She loves to color, dance, sing, and loves to watch Sesame Street. She tries to talk but mostly it is just babbling except for kitty, mama, dadda, uh oh, and probably a few more that I'm forgetting. Shes loes to walk and run and anything at the park. She also loves to read books and most things Elmo are great.

Macy is such a good eater. She loves most foods and eats super well with a fork. She still takes one nap a day ranging from 1-1/2 to 3 hours depending on the day. She loves her binky and I don't know what we're going to do about that but we'll handle it after we move.

Portland City Grill & Beadnill's Party

With our time in Portland coming to an end, we decided we have a few things on our to do list that we wanted to get checked off. One of those items was Happy Hour at Portland City Grill.... What could be better than delicious food with a gorgeous view of the city. It was great!

We finished our night off with good times with friends. The Alumni of OHSU threw a party for the graduates (trying to convince them to join the alumni club and give back to the school). Although the party was a little lame, it was great to see our friends! It seems like I keep saying this but as Tim went to help our friends move this past weekend it actually seems like it is coming to an end. I can't believe how quickly!

National Donut Day

I know I'm a bit behind but these were from National Donut Day last Friday. It was great... Sesame had donuts for a quarter a piece. It was the BEST boston cream I have ever had. Yummy!!!!

Good Bye My Mish!

It was a sad day when I found out that we wouldn't be able to take Misha with us to our new home. It has been a great two and half years with my sweet kitty but it was time to say good bye. I'll miss how my little kitty came up and sat on my lap in the bathroom, and crawled in the crotchy at bedtime. I'll miss filling up her cup on the bathroom counter and seein gher sit on the couch and watch Macy and I play. She was such a good kitty and I'm going to miss my little girl.





It was such a sad affair that I couldn't even bring myself to post her on craigslist to find her a good home. I made Tim do it. Being the quite capable husband that he is he found Misha that perfect home for her to go to. This really nice elderly couple came and picked her up Friday night, a mere three hours after we had posted her. They had three cats of their own and wanted Misha for their daughter who had a kitty like her once upon a time. I think that she'll be well taken care of but I will definitely miss my little girl!

It's actually kind of funny now that she's gone... Tim stills calls out when he thinks she's scratching the couch or running across the floor. Silly boy!

Our First Rental House

I don’t know how many hours I have spent on the phone and on the internet over the last few months looking at rental houses in Moses Lake, WA but all my hard work has finally paid off. I was worried for a while, with Moses Lake being as small as it is, it doesn’t have a big rental market and seeing as anytime I see a house I like it is gone within the week. We thought about buying a house for a while trying to take advantage of the Obama’s $8,000 tax credit but after some apprehension from our banks about loaning we thought that for three years we are probably better off renting anyway.

Tim took a couple days off and we all drove up to Moses Lake to look at houses to rent. We found some good ones but there wasn’t one that really called to us. There was one house that we were dying to see but the renter was reluctant to show us because the previous people had just moved out (it hadn’t been cleaned or anything yet). After some finangling we convinced the clean-up crew to open the house for us to sneak a peek. Sure it was dirty but beneath the grimy sinks, crayon on the wall in the kid’s room and unkempt landscaping it seemed like the perfect house for a Schmidt family of three!

It is a nice little 3 bedroom, 2-1/2 bath, two story, corner home. It is in a cute little neighborhood and I’m sure that we will love the ward (apparently there are lots of Mormons in Moses Lake). It all happened so quickly. We are already approved and our tentative move-in date is June 28th, which will be perfect for us. Our new address: 613 Florida St.

Memorial Day BBQ

We got together with our friends for one last hurrah at Paul and Sarah Clark’s house. It was just a BBQ with a whole bunch of chit-chat and hanging-out but it was sure nice to see them one last time. They are such great people. We’ve had babies together, we’ve helped each other through dental school and now it is fun to discuss everybody’s plans for the future as we all go in our separate directions. Now that all of their test are over and graduation is in sight this is probably the most relaxed I have ever seen these guys! I am going to miss my Portland friends.

On a side note… as dessert for this little shindig I made the coolest cupcakes ever, complete with graduation cap and tassel and assortments of hair styles. Macy and Tim were great help. Macy really liked helping with the eating part.

WREB

Tim is usually pretty good at hiding his stress but this week he took the Western Regional Examination Board (WREB). It is his final test before becoming a real dentist and probably the most intense I have ever seen him. For weeks, he has been either collecting teeth, screening patients, or making calls to make sure that he is prepared. Things went well overall. He even had a little name badge with his picture that made him look all official. The first day he did his cavities. He was fortunate enough to do both of his fillings on the same patient and ended up coming home early. The stress level really dropped after day one, enough to go out to dinner that evening and maybe we celebrated too soon. On day two his perio treatment went well but he had a bit of a hiccup during his root canals. Apparently a gates-glidden bur and a rotary NI-TI file (whatever those are) broke off while he was working on one of his teeth. We are hoping that he will be okay but we don’t get the results for another two to four weeks.

GO SUNS!

The suns gave it one heck of a run. They made it all the way to the Western Conference NBA Finals and lost to the Lakers in six games. Man , Koby is such a loser! Tim’s heart was in the right place. I mean, he is a dedicated fan and all, he just doesn’t have the right apparel. He ended up showing his team support by cutting SUNS headbands and wristbands out of paper, gluing each S-U-N-S on individually (he even used my cricut to cut out the letters so that they would in perfect font). He looks mighty spiffy.

Apparently, being a suns fan is pretty intense and noisy. It was especially bad when the suns beat the blazers in six games. We made the mistake of watching game one with some of our blazer fan friends (Calie and Anthony). Tim realized that if he wanted any friends after game three that he better watch game two at home. All in all, the Suns gave it a good run.
